Happy Birthday to The Brightside

Updated: Oct 13, 2019

In our first official year of business we have been blown away by the response to the space. We have hosted baby showers, birthdays, business launch parties, and spoken word events. We have hosted a variety of weddings, from industrial chic, to rock 'n roll, to cultural. We have hosted a whole range of fundraisers in support of the arts, non-profits, and to support victims of this summer's tornadoes and shooting. We have hosted locally and nationally renown bands for intimate shows in our bar and for larger shows in our ballroom. We have even hosted theater productions and pro-wrestling.

We wanted to take the time today, one year from our Grand Opening, to celebrate the community, events and milestones that turned this vision into reality and so much more. We are grateful for each and every one of you that cheers us on and supports us on this crazy journey. We absolutely could not have done it without all of you.

Grand Opening

Thank you again to all of those who came out to celebrate us opening our doors to the public, we had such a great time at our Grand Opening!

Weddings at The Brightside

Our first wedding in the space after our official opening was none other than our very own music promoter, Libby Ballangee, of Venus Child Productions, and her husband Mitch. Not only was the ceremony beautiful with an installation from Kosins Tents & Events, but these two music loving souls had to go big, hosting This Must Be The Party in a celebration of their marriage for all their friends and family.

Here's what Libby had to say about hosting her wedding turned show here - "Why Brightside? I love downtown Dayton and I love Rock’n’roll, so the only place I could combine those two loves for our special day was at The Brightside. The unique and customizable space allowed us to have our ceremony, dinner and massive party with 18 musicians all in one space! Carli and Shay made sure that every detail was attended to! I couldn’t have been happier and our guests are still raving about it!!"

We also had the pleasure of hosting Albine & Adolphe for their gorgeous an joyful wedding celebration this past July, which incorporated many of their Rwandan traditions.

We Love Our Dayton Community

Hosting our fellow entrepreneurs, giving back to the Dayton community and meeting each and every person who comes through our front doors gives us the reaffirmation we need daily that our venue was needed here in Dayton.

Entrepreneurs Annonymous - Led by Joseph Harrison, we have hosted a few of the meetings, mixers and collaborations that not only get us talking with fellow entrepreneurs, but give those who work alone a place to connect.

We also hosted PeckaKucha Volume #37 in our venue! PechaKucha Dayton has a special spot in our hearts, as we have hosted it multiple times in the past, first in Hamilton Dixon's studio in 2010, and then in the showroom of our sister company, Bloombeads by freeze-frame a few years later. For 2019, owner Carli Dixon as asked to speak - see her presentation here.

Fundraisers at The Brightside Music & Event Venue

We did what we could to help out after 15 tornadoes ravaged our community. We hosted the folks from Metaphorically Speaking for "Resilient" and helped them earn $10,000 needed to help a displaced family find permanent housing.

The Rubi Girls took the stage for their annual fundraiser, "The Show Must Go On," raising money for HIV/AIDS and LGBT-related charities.

This is just a small sampling of the events from 2018-19 season, with new events being added regularly. We are so grateful for each and everyone of you who root for us, show up to events, host things or support us in any way. We would not be here without all of you!
