Tune Into Music Therapy

A Benefit Concert for the Music Therapy Program at Dayton Children's Hospital, Tune Into Music Therapy was a night not to be missed!

Sarah Patrick, a Communications student at Sinclair used her class project for a good cause when partnered up with Dayton Children's hospital, and classmates xx and xx. Sarah had asked to be partnered with the hospital because of the support her own family had the two times my sister was diagnosed with cancer as a child. "They have a special place in my heart and I wanted to find a way to show how much myself and my family appreciate all they do for the kids, their family, and even the community."

The beginning process was very daunting since the classmates were given no perimeters to go by- the sky was the limit! While researching the events Dayton Children's has had in the past, they discovered the music therapy program. Since all three ladies love music, the obvious choice to them was a benefit concert. Combining high hopes with a realistic timeline and reach, the ladies chose to go local, and began searching for a Dayton music venue.

With the help of Ian Baldwin of Hear & See, these determined ladies were introduced to us here at The Brightside Music & Events, and a ton of bands. Our music promoter, Libby Ballengee of Dayton Music Insider and Venus Child Productions, helped get plans started from assisting in looking to bands, for helping set the stage and sound for a great night!

With a goal of $500 from their Facebook fundraiser and $500 from the benefit concert itself, these Sinclair classmates were thrilled to not only achieve but surpass those amounts!

What made you want to put together your Tune Into Music Therapy show here at The Brightside? Well, the venue speaks for itself. It is the perfect blend of music and friendship. The smaller room allows you to have an intimate look at the musician playing while catching up with friends while grabbing a good drink from the bar. My personal reason is that I love music, I loved planning the event, and I love helping Dayton Children's.  Was there a specific sound you were going for? How did your choices in musicians happen? We originally wanted one band, but when they fell through we started looking at some of the musicians both Libby and Ian suggested. With us all working on that focus, we each found one group we loved and booked them, creating a great blend of sounds which we thought would allow hopefully everyone to enjoy at least one of their sets. Bringing together all four types of music gave us a good blend of music and I felt it all fit well together.  Tell me about your favorite part of the evening! My favorite part... I think it was more spiritual than anything. I was proud that we managed to get it all done and found success in the project, grateful for everyone who contributed to the night and being so generous in donating their (your) time and talent/space. Most of all, I just felt overwhelmed with happiness at how so many of us came together and celebrated Dayton Children's Hospital. I couldn't believe so many people came to support us. It was just simply amazing.
